Mount Cetona

Hello dear readers, in this article I would like to tell you about a small and beautiful village located in Tuscany, called Piazze where I am often the guest of a dear friend.

Among the most beautiful towns in Italy, Cetona certainly stands out, nestled among the rolling Tuscan hills and surrounded by greenery, it is a destination not to be missed. Lying on the slopes of the homonymous mountain, it is known for its museum dedicated to prehistory and for the Belverde Archaeological Naturalistic Park where it is possible to visit some of the caves present and where the first men lived from the Paleolithic to the Bronze Age.

A large charming square welcomes tourists hiding from the eyes the alleys of the old town center, all of which can be explored all the way to the beautiful fortress that overlooks the village and which, dating back to the 10th century, is probably the oldest part of the town.

There are many places to visit in Cetona such as the Collegiate Church which owes its particular charm to the presence of several architectural styles and inside which you can admire some frescoes dating back to the ‘400.

Of particular beauty is the Convent of San Francesco and the Romitorio set in a particular natural setting, of an ascetic beauty.

Not far from the town, the small village of Camporsevoli is also worth a visit. An ancient strategic point that from its height could keep the Val di Chiana below under control and that, with the passing of history, has been the object of disputes, wars and battles.
